Pragmatism in front-end development - Anne Fortuin

What makes front-end development such a crucial factor in the web development process? It’s probably that a front-ender is the last one to touch a project before it goes to the client. Even in a scrum setting, it’s the front-ender who will implement that last API change or shift a button’s border radius by can-it-be-less-than-one pixel. A front-ender has to make decisions nobody cares to, dares to, or forgot to make. Being pragmatic is part of their job.

In this talk, I discuss this notion, why it’s good to be pragmatic, and share some real world examples and tricks I have found to be useful.

And what tools can we use to build native apps using web technologies. And finally what actually are Progressive Web Apps anyway?

Niels is a self-professed browser geek. He runs one of the largest Open Device Labs in the world and is the creator of HTML5test.com (http://html5test.com/). A couple of years ago he needed a browser sniffing library for HTML5test, and because existing libraries were not any good, he created one by himself - WhichBrowser (http://whichbrowser.net/). A decision he regrets to this very day.
