We are happy to bring more coverage of functional programming in .NET ecosystem and present talks from people successfully using F# in real world projects. Erlend Wiig from NRK and Both Einar Høst and Bjørn Einar Bjartnes from Computas will share their experience with you.

Agenda

18:00 Introduction

18:05 Programming is hard work, how F# can help? With Erlend Wiig, NRK

In Erlend's talk he will give a brief account of how he became engaged in functional programming. The talk will cover both good and bad parts of his experience: from what was frustrating, like dll hell and lack of support, to what worked best, how it made the code better and why F# is a language to trust. And it will also be about how F# got started in Erlend's team at NRK.

The talk will give a nuanced view of the F# language development experience and cover some dirty work that needs to be done to become productive in F#.
Like a good movie, this talk will have a nice start, a down period in the middle and a pretty happy ending.

18:30 How we introduced F# in a real-life project. With Einar Høst and Bjørn Einar Bjartnes, Computas

Both Einar Høst and Bjørn Einar Bjartnes, two developers in Computas AS, were convinced long ago that F# is a great language. However, there are more to introducing a language in an organization and in a project for a customer than deciding that F# would be a better tool. We are careful about making decisions that will lead to millions of NOKs being invested in writing code in a language we have not tried at scale before. We will discuss how we approached this and what our experiences so far has been with F# and the real-world. Bjørn Einar will share how he built acceptance for his decision and how F# fits with existing tools such as NuGet, ReSharper, dotCover, TeamCity, Octopus deploy etc. and Einar will go into details of some code he wrote.
