What we’re about

Meetup is only one tool for this group, "No gun shop near the Galleria mall in Dallas."
... Currently this group is here to offer small action steps that are geared toward spreading awareness about a gun shop that is open / about to open just outside the Galleria mall." While I am sure it is an uphill battle to get this business to close or move, I am not going to stop trying.

... Although we are on "meetup," I truly do not know if there will be any meetings. Stay tuned for more info about this.

A gun shop, especially in such a high-traffic area that is friendly to kids, teens and a wide range of residents and visitors is thoughtless and irresponsible.

Here are a couple reasons why I (a neighbor who lives in the general area) do not want a gun shop. You can decide for yourself, whether you believe this potential business is a beneficial idea:

~ As stated, this location is well-traveled by families and others.

~A gun shop (with apparently LOTS of merchandise clearly displayed from giant windows) is unattractive and unsightly.
Might I add, this shop is extra-disappointing, given the current gun violence crisis in the U.S. and rise of mass shootings, including several in Texas.

~ Firearms can accidently go off at any time. Here is an interesting link from the Colorado Department of Public Health, stating among other things, that there are about 27,000 unintentional firearm injuries (think about it, even surviving an injury can lead to severe disabilities and other health concerns) in the U.S., and about 500 unintentional firearm deaths each year (CDC, 2020).

~Why would there be a pressing need for a gun store in a location that has previously held mostly furniture stores? The Galleria mall which is directly across the street, is a hugely popular mall in Dallas.
For what I hope are obvious reasons, there doesn't need to be a "Collectors gun shop," a hop, skip, and a jump away.

Thank you.
