Hoapili Trail & Kings Highway to Kanaio Beach

Details
Fellow Adventurers,
Do you enjoy the raw beauty of jagged, black lava fields? Beaches lines with white coral? contrasted with white coral, Secluded Beaches? Also beautiful cliff side tide pools, arches, wild goats and more?
Then come join this adventure where we will take a route less traveled through this beautiful and sacred area of southern Maui.
Please be ready to hike at 8:30 a.m. If you are running late, you can always catch up as we'll start with the Kings Highway.
note that if you've done this with me in the past, I'll be going in reverse this time. ๐๐ฝ
The Route
We will meet at the Hoapili Trailhead (Lava Fields Parking Lot)
From there we will walk the Kings Highway out to Kanaio beach. We will return on the Kamanamana trail junction and take the waterfront trail beyond the 'Light Post'. Along the way we will veer over to the coastal trail and drop down to an arch, cave, and tide pool(s) (if planning on going in, wear shoes/clothes that can get wet). We will then take the Ho'opili back to the parking area.
Total Distance ~5.5 miles.
While not a lot of elevation, the footing is loose, off kilter, and you will feel as though you were climbing due to all the rock stepping and loose volcanic gravel. We must be vigilant against rolling an ankle or a foot sliding sideways into jagged rock. I *highly* recommend hiking shoes for this adventure (I have had to break out my first aid kit for foot lacerations on this trail).
What to Bring
Though we are starting early to beat some of the heat, expect to be exposed to the sun for 90% of this hike, so plan accordingly (and maybe we'll luck out with a cloudy sky).
Sun protection n good shoes
1.5 liters of water per person is recommended, plenty of sun protection, supportive, sturdy shoes, and of course bring your aloha spirit.
And this goes without saying, but bring a camera. This hike provides some unusual beauty that you will want to capture.
Optional: Snack, poles etc.
Parking Is Limited so please consider carpooling. If you are willing to bring others near you, please post up in the comments. Mahalo!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Also, post up any questions you may have.
