Walk and Explore Montlake Cut And Marsh Island Trails

Details
Predicted to be sunny and 60--Walk around 3 miles to see wildlife and interesting/charming parts of Seattle.
We will meet in front of the Seattle Yacht Club and then walk through the Montlake Park neighborhood to East Montlake Park to gain entrance to the waterfront trails of Marsh and Foster Islands. Then we will return to East Montlake Park and walk along the Ship Canal (Mountlake Cut) to West Montlake Park for views of Lake Union. We will return to our meeting place by walking back to the Seattle Yacht Club.
The ship canal which slices Seattle in half connects Puget Sound to Lake Union and then to Lake Washington. At the lake end of the canal, the Arboretum Waterfront Trail follows the marshy shoreline across Marsh and Foster Islands with views across Union Bay to the University of Washington and Lake Washington and offers an up-close glimpse of marshland flora and fauna. The Lake Union end of the canal can be accessed by following the Lake Washington Ship Canal Waterfront Trail to West Montlake Park with views of Lake Union.
No dogs allowed on this walk because we will be visiting the wildlife preserves on Marsh and Foster Islands. While dogs may or may not be legally allowed on these trails I want to respect the wildlife's peace of mind -- so sorry no dogs this time.
Please wear appropriate footwear because some parts of the walk will be wet or muddy.
Heavy rain or high wind conditions may be cause for walk cancellation. So please check this site no later than Sunday morning and before you leave for any cancellation notice.
