Let's Explore Union Bay Natural Area and Boglands

Details
Spring is here. Lets see what is popping up at the Union Bay Natural Area. We will walk around 3 miles through the recently restored wetland to the shoreline and along it back through the wetlands followed up by a side trip to the Union Bay Boglands.
No dogs on this walk, please.
Wear appropriate footwear--Parts of the walk maybe muddy.
Once Seattle' Landfill (see photo below), now the Union Bay Natural Area is a restored meadow/wetland/shoreline ecosystem. It is a public wildlife area, natural restoration laboratory, and an important habitat next to Lake Washington. At 74 acres, with 4 miles of shoreline, it is the second largest natural system left on the lake. Considered one of the best bird-watching sites in the city of Seattle, over 200 species of birds have been sighted here. Some long-time residents call this area the Montlake Fill.
The Union Bay Boglands is also known as the Yesler Swamp Boardwalk. The Yesler Swamp is a wetland on part of what was the property of Henry Yesler, a Seattle pioneer who moved his sawmill business from downtown to this site on Union Bay in 1888. The Town of Yesler later became part of Laurelhurst.
I will cancel the walk in the event of heavy rain downpours. In the event of rain, please check this annoucement Sunday morning for updates. If heavy rain cancels walk, I will also e-mail all "yes" rsvps.
