Build Your Own Personal AI Assistant on AWS with CDK

We're trying something new this month...a hands-on workshop! Bring your laptop with the prerequisites listed below.

Workshop · 60–90 min · Hands-on
AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude are useful, but they live inside someone else's product — with someone else's memory and someone else's integrations. What if you had your own AI assistant, running in your AWS account, reachable from anywhere via Telegram?

That's what we're building. OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant that runs on your own infrastructure for about $7/month. In this hands-on session, we'll deploy the full stack to your AWS account with CDK, wire it up to a Telegram bot, and connect it to an LLM with a GitHub-backed memory store for persistent context.
This workshop is for engineers and AWS practitioners who want to stop renting AI assistants and start owning one. Some AWS and command-line familiarity helps; no prior CDK or agent experience required.

Before you arrive:

  • AWS account with a card on file
  • AWS CLI v2 installed and configured
  • Node.js 20+
  • GitHub and Telegram accounts
  • LLM API keyOpenRouter with ~$5 in credits

You'll leave with a working assistant on your own AWS infrastructure and the foundation to extend it into something genuinely yours.

Speaker Bio: Devin Fitzsimons is a Senior Front end and Serverless Engineer. Passionate about state machines, pair programming and event driven systems.
