Nocode Lisboa #16: Deep Dive on MCP's

Details
This month we're digging into Model Context Protocol, a new standard that is removing the friction from LLM's using applications. We're at a similar moment to 2005 with the "Programmable Web" movement and the advent of API's. MCP is shaping up to be the abstraction layer that all applications use to enable truly agentic AI use.
Why does this matter? Google search traffic is falling off a cliff. People are less and less performing Google searches and instead simply asking ChatGP and other LLM's for answers. The logical next progression here is that soon people won't be visiting websites to perform actions but rather they'll have their LLM act on their behalf to book reservations, buy stuff, fill out forms, negotiate deals, etc. MCP is how you can ensure your app preserves relevance throughout that transition. There will be a massive opportunity for those who embrace this standard early and position ahead of the curve making their apps AI-friendly via MCP.
In this talk we'll do a deep dive on this subject first discussing the theory and then getting our hands dirty actually building an application that both consumes MCP services and exposes itself as one.
Target audience for this talk is not developers. It's entrepreneurs and business owners. We'll keep everything within the realm of semi-technical people and use analogies to convey the concepts. By the end of the talk you'll have a thorough understanding of what MCP represents, how to build with it and where to go to further your understanding.
The talk as always is free to attend. If you get value from it please consider donating to our friends at Lisbon Project doing important work of integrating displaced refugees in the Lisbon community. Post any questions you have in advance below and Sean will address them in his talk.
PS. This is an excellent podcast interview with the two guys from Anthropic who are the founders of MCP. It's a great way to wrap your head around it with info from the creators.
