NodeJS meets Hardware: An Introduction and Real-Life Experiements

Details

For our October Meetup we have two hardware-themed talks lined up, because hardware is just so hot right now.

Chetan Shenoy will present "Welcome to NodeBots". Hack hardware with JavaScript. Build your own bot to automate your life or (try) to take over the world. Even if you only know a little jQuery, you can program your own robot. In this talk, he'll introduce the basic concepts of using Node to hack on an Arduino board using the Johnny-Five module.

Jon Long will follow up with a project he did, that in his own words is "a giant hardware button that when pushed, will transform our office's "developer cave" into a badass fortress of concentration, complete with mood lighting, an "on air" sign, and ambient star trek bridge noises. Fairly ridiculous, but pretty fun." Indeed. The app itself uses Johnny Five, async, a HUE api client, and an mpd client called Komponist.

Can't wait to see you there.
