MUSIC: Heather Leigh Holt of Choo Choo Music Camp
Orff studios welcomes musicians of all skill levels. Campers will have the opportunity to improve performance skills, build self confidence, learn valuable team building lessons, interact with other musicians, grow as artists and most importantly - HAVE FUN!
This Orff camp will provide group music lessons and performance preparation to students ages 8-11. Students will have the opportunity to experience and learn music through movement, instrument ensembles and voice. The goal is to develop fundamental musicianship by experiencing pulse, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and timbre. These skills allow students the freedom to express one’s own musical ideas, as well as, others. Heather Leigh Holt is helping to organize and will be teaching the camp. She studied at the University of Georgia and has been teaching elementary music in Hamilton County for eight years. http://www.gigcityproductions.com/choochoomusiccamp/

TelemeterEd - Peter Connolly, Fritsl Butler, Christopher Hunt
TelemeterED provides a highly engaging, interactive student learning experience through a toolkit which includes devices and curriculum frameworks utilizing the power of high-speed, low-latency gigabit internet networks. Shattering the distance learning model, TelemeterED creates K-12 STEM learning environments never before possible, engaging and empowering students and teachers by providing access to equipment and experts a world away.
Gig Tank Background
Gig Tank 365 located in Chattanooga, TN is a boutique accelerator for startups developing ultra-high bandwidth business applications. The program connects high-growth oriented companies with the tools, capital and on-the-ground guidance from industry experts and national thought leaders in broadband and entrepreneurship. Project Overview
We are developing a scalability plan for the 4K low-latency learning experience that was piloted at STEM School Chattanooga. The STEM School collaborated with researchers at the USC School of Cinematic Arts to conduct a cross-country learning experience using an ultra-HD microscope, Chattanooga’s gigabit network and GENI rack. This first-in-the-nation experience gave local students the opportunity to interact with 4k video microscopy, view microorganisms in real time from more than 1,800 miles away, and conduct original projects in aquatic microbial ecology with researchers at USC. Gig Tank Goals
Our task this summer is to create a launch plan to replicate the experience into additional Hamilton County Schools and an additional gigabit community during the fall semester of the 2016-2017 school year. In addition, we will develop a technological toolkit of devices that can be applied to other learning assets (telescopes, planetariums, aquariums, sensors, etc.) and curriculum frameworks and that can be easily shared to provide teachers an outline on how to utilize the technology in the classroom. Expanding this learning experience into additional schools will allow us to refine the processes, the toolkit of devices and the curriculum frameworks so that eventually the 4K low-latency experience can be available to any school with gigabit connectivity.
Mentor Needs
Scaling this learning experience involves multiple entities and also requires infrastructure for partner schools and its classrooms. We plan to use the microscope project to test our hypothesis that the toolkit of devices and curriculum frameworks can be used in additional STEM subjects. That’s where you come in. We need your expertise for consulting, suggestions and to help guide us through this process. FILM: Guesthouse Creative Coming to America is a storytelling collective comprised of Chattanooga's refugee and immigrant communities.
We are devoted to telling stories by us, and for us. We believe in the idea of an America that is devoted to inclusion, and that recognizes all peoples of the globe.
We meet bimonthly and discuss various topics composed of our individual stories. Everyone is welcome.
