We are kicking off the New Orleans Health Innovators Community (http://medstartr.com/NOLAHI) program sponsored by the NOLA Business Alliance (http://nolaba.com/)and supported by MedStartr (http://medstartr.com/) with an evening of speakers and innovators that are changing healthcare for the better in New Orleans. Please join us and join the community on at http://www.nolahi.org and be part of the revolution in healthcare!

The topic of the evening will be Driving Innovation in Healthcare and will feature local and national leaders of the massive change that has been taking place in healthcare. We also will make available tables for startups to present at during the breaks.

It takes a community to develop, support, and drive innovation in healthcare. At NOLAHI (http://www.nolahi.org) you will find the innovators, team members, beta testers, experts, co-creators, collaborators, customers and investors you will need to improve healthcare in your company, clinic, and community. We have invited MedStartr, organizers of some of the largest and most prolific healthcare innovation ecosystems in the world, to help us kickstart our community and this is our first event!

Keynote: Esteban Gershanik, MD (https://www.linkedin.com/in/esteban-gershanik-312a3310/), CIO, Louisiana Dept. of Health and Hospitals

Dr. Gershanik is the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Chief Information Officer and Director of its Bureau of Health Informatics. In this role, Dr. Gershanik has been assigned the responsibility of building a vision and strategy for Health Information Technology (HIT) in partnership with the Office of Public Health, Medicaid, and healthcare delivery members from around the state of Louisiana and across the country.

Previously, Dr. Gershanik served as the Process Care Redesign Clinician for Partners Healthcare, Medical Director of the Hospital Medicine Units at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and core member of the AHRQ-funded Patient Safety Learning Lab leading efforts in HIT tools and process solutions for the optimization of EHRs and broader healthcare delivery initiatives around process care redesign, patient experience and quality and safety.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gershanik has served on various hospital-wide HIT and Quality Committees and has been involved with several nationally and locally funded research grants around HIT tools and innovation and their impact on healthcare delivery initiatives. He is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School teaching clinical courses, a faculty reviewer for their Safety Quality Informatics Leadership course, and faculty for their Partners Healthcare Clinical Informatics and Innovation Fellowship. Nationally, he is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine Information Technology Committee, has served as a peer reviewer for journals and guidelines, and has given lectures and presentations on informatics.

Clinically, Dr. Gershanik serves as a Medicine and Pediatric Hospitalist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Hospital Medicine. He has served clinically on staff for LSU, Tulane, and Harvard Medical Schools.

Keith Toussaint, Keith is Principal of KMT Strategies, where he consults with health care organizations and technology providers around the world. As Executive Director of Collaborations at Mayo Clinic, he developed global strategic alliances to support product development and distribution to patients, providers and consumers. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, he was a Principal Business Development Manager for Amazon Web Services. Keith also held various leadership positions at Microsoft Corporation, where he led internal teams as a leader in Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group. He also led engagements with more than 50 healthcare institutions to integrate HealthVault with their EMRs. Keith has a B.S.E.E. and is author on numerous patents related to digital media, health IT systems

Dr. Korak Sarkar, MD (https://www.linkedin.com/in/korak-sarkar-md-2826509/), Neurologist, Oschner, Dept of Neurology, Clinical Instructor, Tulane Medical Center.

Dr. Korak Sarkar completed his undergraduate education at the Johns Hopkins University where he obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, and Neurosciences. He earned a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine. He completed a Neurology Residency at the University of California at Davis, in Sacramento, CA. This was followed by the completion of a Brain Injury and Medicine Fellowship at Northwestern and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Dr. Sarkar is double boarded in Neurology and Brain Injury Medicine and Rehabilitation. He joined the Ochsner Neurosciences Institute in 2015 and is also a Clinical Instructor at the Tulane School of Medicine. His research on TBI has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has been awarded the American Academy of Neurology’s (AAN) Founder’s Award in Translational Research. He currently serves as a board member for the non-profit Brain Injury Association of Louisiana (BIALA).

Cian Robinson began his career at Lafayette General Foundation (LGF) in August of 2014 as the Director of Development and Operations. In November of 2014, Cian was promoted to the position of Executive Director. In addition to his work at LGF, Cian is also an adjunct instructor at the B. I. Moody III College of Business Administration at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Molly Hegarty worked as a nutritionist designing wellness programs to improve the health of offshore oilfield workers in the Gulf of Mexico before developing RDnote, which she founded to combine her experience as a registered dietitian with her extensive skills in software product management and engineering. Hegarty received her B.S. from the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering and an M.S. from Bastyr University’s School of Nutrition and Exercise Science. She completed her Dietetic Internship at Tulane University’s School of Public Health.

Since 2009 he has been developing healthcare innovation ecosystems, platforms and programs that drive healthcare innovation further and faster with hundreds of companies helped to launch, learn and grow. He earned his BS in Interdisciplinary Sciences from Rensselaer and his MS in Pathology from the Medical College of Wisconsin.
