Non-Alcoholic Newcastle

A leisurely round-trip on the bike, starting at the BALTIC Art Centre, leading to Wylam for a break, and back again.

It is a bike ride for anyone with some fitness left in their legs and chest. The slowest members will set the pace, though. It is not a competition, but safety and fun come first. Please wear helmets and colourful clothing and bring some water!

For those who do not want to go the full distance, we can pick you up at the Newburn Leisure Centre, which has a car park. The route from Newburn to Wylam is entirely flat, without a single hill.

A walk through Jesmond Dean along the river Ouseburn with stops at Ouseburn Farm and Pet's Corner.

We will meet at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and walk along the small river Ouseburn up to South Gosforth. We will stop briefly at Ouseburn Farm (aka Ryker Farm) and Pet's Corner, for those who have not yet seen the animals that are being cared for at these sanctuaries. The walk ends in South Gosforth, where we take the Metro back into Newcastle's city centre.

The Ouseburn Farm allows guests to feed the animals. You can bring fruits, vegetables and seeds for the animals (pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ...).

A nice walk to Alnwick via almouth
We shall meet at 11:45 so we can get the 1238 pm train

We shall enjoy a steady walk to Alnwick via the county side path through fields.

We can enjoy a nice tea in coffee in one of the cafe in Alnwick.

For returning we have 3 options

Get direct bus to Newcastle which is 2 hours
£2.50 single fairy
Return to almouth train station via bus
Or walk back to the train station

A walk is like making thousands of decisions without a thought, where every step is a decision. A walk reinforces the pathways in our brain, which allow us to make quick decisions each day in life, reduces anxiety, depression, overthinking, and worrying, and lets us enjoy life more easily.

When your first thought is that you do not need a walk then you have made a quick decision! But ... when you feel like it is too much effort, or that it is too cold, or that you are not in the mood, then it may be a sign that you should go on a walk. You will feel differently afterwards.

I hope you find this little speech inspiring! We will meet at the Tynemouth Tower Clock in front of the Priory and walk from there up towards the lighthouse (or as far as people are willing to walk).

Dogs are always welcome! If you are having difficulties with parking, try parking further up (e.g., at Cullercoats, Spanish City, or near the lighthouse) or take the Metro to Tynemouth.
