THIS WEEKS TOPIC: The Life Skill We Were Never Taught – Why Self-Awareness Matters
Speaker: Paul Francis
What if one of the most important skills in life is something most of us were never taught?
Self-awareness shapes how we think, respond to challenges, build relationships, and navigate the world around us. Yet very few people ever learn how their own mind and social patterns actually work.
In this talk we’ll explore self-awareness through the Four Social Pillars – the invisible foundations that influence how humans relate to one another.
These pillars originally evolved to keep humans safe within tribes, where belonging meant survival. In modern life, however, these same drivers can sometimes create pressure, insecurity, and misunderstandings in our relationships and sense of self.
During the talk we’ll explore:
• Where the Four Social Pillars come from
• Why they once helped humans survive
• How they influence confidence and relationships today
• What a secure relationship actually looks like
• How these patterns can impact mental wellbeing and resilience
Paul will also introduce his self-awareness video storybook “The Captain’s Journey.”
The story follows a young boy navigating a ship across the Sea of Life, discovering lessons about thoughts, emotions, and human behaviour along the way.
The video storybook is currently free to watch at:

Come along for a thoughtful and engaging conversation about understanding ourselves – and each other – a little better.
