Google SRE; re-architecting legacy datastore to NoSQL; +200K containers at PYPL

Details

Hi SREs!!! This agenda is based on all the feedback we got from you after our last meetup. We have Dave Rensin from Google SRE opening the meetup. Many of us have heard Dave before in SRECon, so I am sure we are all excited to have him talk about "how to convince senior leaders to let you do SRE". PayPal Risk will also come talk to us about a herculean effort they did to migrate from legacy datastores to NoSQL in order to achieve 10x scalability and at the same time reduce the total cost of ownership significantly. Last but not least, we will have the Core PayPal Infrastructure team talk to us about the journey to over 200K containers at PayPal.

Just like in the last meetup, we will also make sure there is enough time to network and enjoy some good local brews/wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and food while sharing some good site reliability engineering stories.

Please RSVP if you are planning on coming so we can plan accordingly.

Agenda:

5.30pm – 6.00pm: Meet and Greet. Snacks and beverages provided.

6:00pm – 6:45pm: Convincing your senior leaders to let you do SRE (Dave Rensin - Director of Google SRE)

6:45pm – 7:30pm: A process to migrate/re-architect legacy datastores to achieve 10x scalability and at the same time reduce the total cost of ownership significantly” (PayPal - Risk Infrastructure)

7:30pm – 8:15pm: The journey of Containerization at PayPal (PayPal - Core Platform Infrastructure)
