Hello everyone,
I have a wilderness permit for Yosemite and am planning a 3-day backpacking trip along the Pohono Trail from June 26–29 (spend June 25 eve at campground).
If you're interested in joining me, let me know and we’ll see if we’re a good team.

  • Trip Overview

Thursday, June 25

  • Depart Woodland/Greater Sacramento area @ 10 AM.
  • Camp at Summerdale Campground (near Yosemite's south entrance)

Friday, June 26

  • Pick up wilderness permit at the Wawona Visitor Center (before 10:00 a.m.)
  • Drive to Tunnel View/Bridalveil parking area
  • Begin hiking on the Pohono Trail along Yosemite's spectacular south rim
  • Backpacking Route

The Pohono Trail offers some of Yosemite's most iconic views, following the rim above Yosemite Valley. Highlights include:

  • Tunnel View
  • Inspiration Point
  • Stanford Point
  • Crocker Point
  • Bridalveil Creek
  • Dewey Point (one of Yosemite's best sunset viewpoints)
  • Our first night will likely be near Bridalveil Creek, where water is available, though we may continue farther toward Dewey Point depending on conditions and energy levels.

(our camp would be approximately 6–7 miles from Tunnel View near the Bridalveil Creek crossing, before Dewey Point. Multiple backpacking trip reports describe camping near Bridalveil Creek because it is the primary water source on this section of the trail.)

  • Return
  • Exit June 29
  • Return to the Sacramento/Woodland area that evening
  • This is a moderate backpacking trip with elevation gain, but it is not a race. I have good endurance and am comfortable carrying a pack, though I tend to hike at a steady pace rather than trying to keep up with the younger speedsters.

If you're interested or would like more details about mileage, gear, or logistics, please let me know.

Physical Requirements: Participants should be comfortable hiking 6–8 miles while carrying a fully loaded backpack and navigating moderate elevation changes. This trip involves several hours of hiking on uneven terrain in summer conditions. If you're unsure whether this trip is a good match for your current fitness or experience level, please contact me before registering and I'm happy to discuss it.

Note that the Komoot Trail needs to be updated and I will discuss with you if your interested.
