Women Painters from the Nordic Countries/Nordic Language Conversation Practice

Details
Join Nordic Language Meetup at the Smithsonian’s National Gallery of Art on Saturday, March 29th (2-4pm) to learn about women painters from the Nordic countries. We will explore the history and works of Nordic women like Marie Vilhelmine Bang (Ville Bang) and Anna Ancher of Denmark, Aasta Hansteen and Harriet Backer of Norway, Kristín Jónsdóttir of Iceland, Helene Schjerfbeck of Finland, and Karin Bergöö Larsson of Sweden. We will also practice our conversational skills in the Nordic languages. Meet at the Terrace Café in the East Building Upper Level Atrium of the National Gallery of Art. Look for tabletop Nordic flags.
Participants are encouraged, but by no means required, to check out the Smithsonian’s newly-acquired painting “Pierre Louis Alexandre” by Swedish painter Karin Bergöö Larsson in the West Building of the National Gallery of Art (Gallery 81, Main Floor) before or after our meetup. Just remember we are meeting in the EAST Building upstairs at the Terrace Café.
