Nordic Sculptors/Nordic Language Practice
Details
Come join the Nordic Culture and Language Exchange Meetup group to learn about Nordic sculptors and their works of art both in the Nordic countries and in the United States (including several in the Washington D.C. area) We will discuss sculptors such as Norwegian Gustav Vigeland, whose statues are featured in Vigeland Park in Oslo, Danish-American Gutzon Borglum, who designed General Philip Sheridan's equestrian statue here in Sheridan Circle and carved the presidents into Mount Rushmore, as well as Sweden's Carl Milles and his sculptures in Sweden and the U.S. (including those in Falls Church, VA.) We will also discuss Finnish sculptor Elia Hiltunen who designed the Sibelius Monument in Helsinki, the giant Stone Sword in Njarðvík, Iceland, and Swedish sculptor Claes Oldenburg-designer of our very own "Typewriter Eraser, Scale X" right here in DC at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden! After our cultural discussion we will have conversation practice for the five Nordic languages. Join us at the Pavilion Café at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.
