Deep dive into observability and web accessibility

Experienced developers, we have got a treat for you!
Join Mike Ensor and Alvar Laid at TechTalk powered by Nortal!
Mike Ensor, VP of Global Cloud Practice at Nortal and one of North America’s top AWS and Google Cloud partners will speak about modern observability.
The “shift-left” philosophy has started to be a common pattern companies use to enable delivery teams more autonomy. This philosophy shifts the traditional operations teams into a reliability mindset. Focusing on reliability requires applications to share information about their health. Traditional health systems focus on “CPU”, “IOPS” and/or “RAM” usage, but this is no longer sufficient in a distributed cloud native solution.
This talk will deep dive into the three primary areas of observability; application-level metrics, logging and tracing. We will cover modern techniques on implementing a comprehensive observability strategy and how to tie all three areas together. Our deep dive will teach you to increase time-to-resolution, decrease debugging time and expose business-level metrics that are useful for Operations teams and Business owners alike.
NOTE: This talk will cover the principles behind the tools and will be delivered as a tool-agnostic approach.
Takeaways:
- Learn how to construct data models for time-series metrics
- Discuss methods to setup and trace requests covering ephemerial and distributed systems
- Highlight responsibilities of the development team to support Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles
- Outline the importance of engineering logging formats and correlation data to support polyglot development
Alvar Laid, Senior Front-End Developer at Nortal, will cover the Basics of Web Accessibility.
During the presentation he will take a look at what is Web Accessibility and why it isn’t as straightforward to implement as we’d wish. He will take a look at how to create accessible components and how assistive technology works in broader strokes. At the end of the presentation you will hopefully be left with an understanding of the problem set Web Accessibility presents, some tips and tricks you can take to your daily job alongside with helpful materials to dive deeper yourself.
