What we’re about
This group welcomes everyone to explore the lore and the diverse cultures of the Teutonic people (Scandinavians, Germans, Dutch, English and their offshoots).
We are about building a strong vibrant community.
Initially, we will study the pre-Christian Teutonic lore. The lore consists of the eddas, sagas and skaldic poetry. This knowledge provides the Folk with the world view of the ancient Teutonic people. From there we will explore their festivals, foods, crafts, songs and dances.
Other topics covered will include the runes, eschatology (what happens after death), the calendar, or other topics of interest to the Folk.
My specialty is around Teutonic lore. The group especially welcomes people who have specialist knowledge around culture.
The group will also participate in three, family friendly, festivals of the Teutonic people. The festivals are, Vetrnætr (Winter Nights-April), Jólaveizla (Yule-July), and Sumarmál (Summer Meal-October). Everyone, including friends and family, are welcome to attend the festivals. Each festival will consist of games during the day, a blót (offering to the Godin) and then a shared meal and socializing.
Other events may be added if there is interest.
This meetup is also associated with the North Canterbury Teutonic Martial Arts Meetup whose focus is on HEMA.
