Adoptee Healing: Reclaiming Black Identity After Transracial Adoption

Tiana Hawver will be joined by Dr. Abby Hasberry, LMFT, LCMFT, speaker, therapist, and author of Adopting Privilege: A Memoir of Reinventing My Adoptee Narrative, for a conversation exploring Black adoptee identity, healing, and narrative reclamation. Drawing from Abby’s lived experience as a transracial adoptee and birth parent, as well as her work supporting adoptees and families through a trauma-informed lens, the discussion will center the voices and resilience of Black adoptees while examining the lifelong impact of adoption. In recognition of Black History Month, this conversation aims to uplift Black adoptee experiences, identity development, and community connection.

AAOM Speaker Series, hosted by Tiana Hawver, Presented by Adoptee Advocates of Michigan (AAOM)

The AAOM Speaker Series brings adoptee voices to the forefront, connecting Michigan’s adoptee community with authors, leaders, and changemakers advancing justice, visibility, and equity for adoptees and their families. Each session fosters meaningful dialogue around issues that impact our community.

This series also supports our grassroots advocacy, including educational and legislative outreach. We believe speakers should be compensated for their expertise, lived experience, and the meaningful contributions they bring to our community dialogue. Your ticket purchase provides financial support that helps us compensate speakers and sustain these vital conversations. Whether you are an adoptee, part of the adoption constellation, or an ally, join us to stay informed, inspired, and engaged with voices that are too often unheard.

Suggested Donation $10, but free community tickets available.
