it is complicated when it comes to breads. There is a love hate relationship that we have with it. I read a quote.. “Bread is like the sun.. it rises in the yeast.. and sets in the waist!”
However, just like anything, if you go to the origins, there is generally good there! Sourdough bread, made from the original wheat and through natural fermentation, is something that is delicious and healthy. The history of sourdough is as old as agriculture… 1000s of years old. The oldest sourdough dates back to 3700 BC, but its origins are even older!
Flavourful, long lasting, beautiful and fun to make.. Sourdough is truly the best bread there is. Come to this meetup to understand the art of sourdough making. We may also be able to set up you with some starter culture so you can be off and baking in no time!
Yes, the math is complex... but not hard! Come and understand sourdough baking (get to know what starter, leaven, inoculation, baker’s %, hydration etc mean). Get to know other ways of bread fermentation (pre ferments, biga, poolish, sponge) and other methods like tanzhong.
Gluten is not very good! Lear a little about different grains. (Gluten, non gluten etc). Finally, get your hands dirty and bake some sourdough n some yeasted breads
All of it, while you meet some amazing people and make everlasting friendships.
