For dog owners it is important to realize that not all parks are open to our four-legged friends. it is sometimes hard for dog owners to believe but not everyone loves dogs. We are, in fact, in the minority when compared with our non-dog-owning neighbors. As such, rules can change rapidly to ban dogs from even more of our public parks. It doesn't take a referendum or a ballot count for "NO DOGS" signs to appear overnight.

So make sure your dog is a good citizen on the trail - don't bother other hikers and pick up after him - and you will be embarking on a passion that will last a lifetime.

Get fit - grab a leash and hit the trail!

Our days are getting long, so we will be varying our Wednesday walks. Let's start at the new Civic Park and walk neighborhoods to the north. There will be times we get the waterfront views, and if we make it to Ocean Avenue there are unobstructed views. the neighborhoods and gardens along the way are beautiful.

Plan on 3-4 miles, and about an hour and a half to 2 hours walking time.

As always, dogs on leash, scoop the poop.
No children under 12 years of age.

Street Park by Civic Park in Edmonds on 7th Avenue.

Summer walks and hikes are starting earlier to beat the heat and the crowds. At this time of year, remember sun screen, water for yourself and dogs, as well, bug spray is a good idea. Never plan to leave your dog in the car while you run errands before/after or stop for lunch.

There is not a lot of info on this hike so i will link to my YouTube video of when i did it earlier this year. It is a gated road evolving into a trail along the Pilchuck River. Lightly travelled and peaceful. Fairly flat, gentle incline. With a nice river access beach about 2.5 miles along. Wear a good trail shoe.

● A Fundraising Walk for Old Dogs: A leisurely 1/3 mile stroll through Cromwell Park. Bring your dog, young or old and support Old Dog Haven’s very important
mission. All proceeds pay for the veterinary expenses for the dogs in our care. Start your own fundraising team with your friends and family or support an existing team!

● Many Kids and Pet-Friendly Activities: Bring your entire family to enjoy the day! There will be food trucks, splash pools, doggie lick art, photo booth, and an onsite pet portrait sketch artist.

● Check out the many vendors booths and get a great deal at our Old Dog Haven auction with flash sales and many more fun things to do. We have also added more Old Dog Haven merchandise with new designs in T-shirts, hats and bags to purchase at the event.

The fourth Jackson Brodie novel: literary crime from the prizewinning number-one bestselling author of Big Sky andTranscription.
Started Early, Took My Dog is a 2010 novel by English writer Kate Atkinson named after the Emily Dickinson poem of the same name.

We will meet for Coffee at 9 am to discuss the book and then go for a walk at 10 am.
I am going to keep it simple by keeping the meeting place the same each month. (Cafe Ladro in Edmonds, and walking the Pine Ridge Park Trail System or Yost Park trails).

I am scheduling these for the last Sunday of the month. If this day and time doesn't work for you and you like this idea, please let me know and I can adjust.
Book selections may be dog related, but not necessarily. They may be novels or true-life adventures. They may be set locally, or in foreign countries. If you have a suggestion, let me know.
I will try to select books that are readily available in paperback or at the library (no long waitlists)
Book Discussion will be casual. Do not be intimated into thinking this will be deep, intellectual literary discussion. We will keep it light and welcome all opinions and feeling.
You are welcome to just join us for the walk at 10 am if you don't want to discuss the book.

If we meet outside (there are chairs and it is covered, but not heated) the dogs can be with us, or leave them in the car if we go inside the coffee shop.
