Details
Our days are getting long, so we will be varying our Wednesday walks. Check in each week to see where we will be meeting.
Also, in case of inclement weather, check this site to verify if this is still happening or has been cancelled. i tend to wait until late afternoon to decide as the weather often changes.
Let's start at Animal Acres Park in Lake Forest Park and do a lap of it and then walk down to Blue Heron Park and back up. This is roughly a mile and a half (we can add more neighborhood walking if we want, or do another lap or two of the park) with 82 ft of Elevation Gain.
Nearly four acres of maintained meadow and tall, arching shade trees at Pfingst Animal Acres Park provide a lovely area for picnics or a nature walk. At the south edge of the park, McAleer Creek winds through a forested corridor with a good salmon viewing platform. This platform is used by local schools for annual salmon release events.
Blue Heron Park is a small (.50 acre) hidden gem at a busy intersection. Lush native landscaping gives way to a primitive pathway. Planting beds with an array of native drought–tolerant plants. Enjoy viewing the salmon in fall, winter or spring, watch for herons fishing for lunch.
The property was privately owned and commonly called "the stump farm" because former owners had cleared it and left the stumps standing. The park was purchased by the City of Lake Forest Park with Open Space bonds in 1989.
Plan on 2-3 miles, and about an hour to an hour and a half walking tme.
As always, dogs on leash, scoop the poop, no children under the age of 12.
