July 4th Hike - Mine Road Trail, Darrington, WA

Summer walks and hikes are starting earlier to beat the heat and the crowds. At this time of year, remember sun screen, water for yourself and dogs, as well, bug spray is a good idea. Never plan to leave your dog in the car while you run errands before/after or stop for lunch.

I love this little hike. there is a bit of elevation gain, but overall it is pretty moderate.

Mine Road Trail is a 3.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Arlington, Washington that offers scenic views and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from April until September.

Elevation Gain: 547-650 ft (conflicting reports from different sites)
Pass/Permit Required: none
Dogs allowed on leash, poop must be scooped and disposed of properly.

Parking is limited so we may meet nearby to consolidate into fewer cars.

## Getting There

Heading east toward Darrington on SR 530, turn right (south) on 387th Ave NE/Old Mine Road (there is a gas station and Whitehorse Convenience Store on the corner) and drive .6 miles to the dead end with a steel gate on the right and barricade of large boulders on the left with a wooden bridge directly behind them. (The steel gate on the right marks the way to Whitehorse Ridge.) Cross the boulders and the bridge over Moose Creek to begin the hike. This is the same trailhead as for the Neiderprum Trail (marked junction on right in 1.25 miles).
