Valentines Day Hike - Heart Lake , Anacortes Forest Lands
Details
Welcome to our off season. Bad weather happens, but i try not to let it stop us. Dangerous conditions, however, will cause me to cancel completely or change what we do. Please check in the morning of the event to see what is happening. Arm yourself for winter weather. Please keep your RSVP up to date - even if you are on the waiting list.
Please remember to be kind and respectful to all members of this group as well as other people and dogs you meet along the way. Do not allow your dog go up to other dogs or people without permission from those people and dog owners. Be mindful of your dog’s whereabouts and manage accordingly for the safety and comfort of all.
Please familiarize yourself with the posted hike before you sign up so that you know what you are getting into and can come prepared.
Participation will be limited per rules of the trails and comfort level of host, so be courteous and only RSVP if you intend to show up.
Dogs must be leashed and poop scooped. (No bags left behind)
Thought this might be appropriate for Valentine’s Day. This is a nice hike through some great old growth for trees, around heart lake. I have seen swans on the lake and eagles perching on the dead wood in the lakes.
Trail can be narrow in spots, a little roots in others and probably muddy.
Please wear appropriate footwear.
Otherwise it is a pretty simple hike.
Meet in the designated parking area, there is a privy available.
Passes, permits, parking fees: none
Distance : 3 miles
Elevation. Gain: minimal. (There is one small section with an uphill)

Guest Function will be turned off. you may bring a guest but must ride with you as parking is limited.
From I-5, take Exit 230 for Highway 20 and head west for 10 miles, then turn left to stay on Highway 20. Staying straight on the Highway 20 Spur takes you into the city of Anacortes.
Turn right onto Campbell Lake Road and drive about one and a half miles along the lake. Turn right onto Heart Lake Road--note that the sign for this turn can be hard to read, so look for the Mount Erie Grocery and take the road to the right of the store.
Less than a mile from the grocery store, pass the parking lot for Mount Erie and Sugarloaf on your right. Within a quarter mile, the parking lot for Heart Lake is on your left--turn into the large graveled lot and pick a spot!
