🌿 Hike the UNF Wildlife Sanctuary – Goldenrod Trail UNF Wildlife Sanctuary along the Goldenrod Trail. This is one of Jacksonville’s hidden natural gems — a peaceful woodland escape just minutes from town. Expect winding paths through pine flatwoods, shaded boardwalks, and a few small elevation changes that make it a fun, moderate-level hike. Join us for a refreshing and scenic hike through the UNF Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Jacksonville’s best-kept natural treasures! This adventure combines the Goldenrod Trail, the Big Cypress Trail, and the Red Maple Boardwalk, offering a little bit of everything — shady pine flatwoods, raised boardwalks through wetlands, and peaceful cypress swamps alive with wildlife.

📍 Location: UNF Wildlife Sanctuary – 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224
(Park in Lot 100 near the nature trails entrance)
🚶‍♀️ Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (approx. 2.5 to 3 miles round trip)
⏱ Duration: About 1.5 to 2 hours
🐿 What to Bring:
• Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots
• Water and bug spray
• Hat/sunscreen
• Optional: camera or binoculars for wildlife spotting

We’ll take our time to enjoy nature, snap photos, and maybe spot some turtles, birds, or deer along the way. Afterwards, those interested can grab a bite or coffee nearby.

Directions (from Jacksonville city center)

1. Head southeast on Atlantic Blvd (FL-10) toward the university area.
2. Turn right onto UNF Drive (this will curve and serve as the main road onto campus).
3. Continue on UNF Drive until you approach the campus inner loop. Look for signs for “Parking Services / Lot 100 / Wildlife Sanctuary”.
4. When you see the sign for Building 52 (Parking Services) and Lot 100, take the turn toward the west‐side parking lots.
5. The “West Entrance” to Parking Services is on the west façade of Building 52. Pull into the driveway just before the lot and park in Lot 100 (visitor or designated trailhead parking) if you’re there for the sanctuary.
6. From the parking area, follow the trail‐signs toward the Wildlife Sanctuary entrance/boardwalk area. The trailhead for the Goldenrod Trail and related boardwalks is only a short walk from the parking lot.

Signing up on Meetup WILL NOT reserve your place.
You must go to the website, choose January 10, select the 12:20 PM tour, and book your ticket. Payment is taken when you book.

There is a very generous cancellation policy — full refund if you cancel more than 3 days before the tour.

If enough people join, I can open a second time slot in this date and coordinate both groups.

Carpool / Transportation

We will meet at Fresh Start( old st augustine road) for optional carpooling. If needed, I’ll arrange a van rental so everyone can travel together. Details on that will be posted Later.

Our most popular tour! This is one of two tours that take you flying over Lost Spring Lake, in the massive Big Cliff Canyon. This course includes 9 zip line flights through the canyons, 2 sky bridges and a unique ending to the experience with a rappel from the last platform. You’ll start low and slow on a couple of “bunny zips” and quickly work your way up to higher, faster, longer lines!
Our captivating and entertaining professional guides will be there to make your flights amazing and worry free. After zipping at heights over 130' and individual zips as long 1,100' you’ll leave feeling like you can conquer the world! This high quality, world-class zip lining experience can only be found here, at The Canyons Zip Line and Adventure Park.
*Don’t worry, all of our zip lining tours begin with an introduction to zip lining including a practice zip.
Participant requirements: Weight must be between 70 lbs. and 270 lbs. and approx. 10 years of age minimum.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY

Tours are charged in full at the time of booking.
Cancellation of reservations more than 72 hours in advance of the tour date will be refunded less an administrative fee of $3.00 per person.
Reservations canceled less than 72 hours prior to the date of the tour will not be eligible for a refund. No reschedules or refunds will be given with less than 72 hours notice.
Refunds will not be issued for late arrivals. Tours leave on schedule and it will not be possible to join a tour after it has started.
If The Canyons Zip Line & Adventure Park cancels your tour prior to the start of the tour due to inclement weather or any other unforeseen event, we will refund your payment in full. Tours that are already in progress will not be eligible for a refund.
Participants under the age of 18 must have proper parental/guardian supervision and/or valid permission to participate. Participants under the age of 18 who do not have the required documentation will be denied participation in the tour. Please see our Participant Agreement Here.
