What we’re about

The purpose of the North Idaho Objectivism Society is to facilitate wider exposure to and deeper understanding and acceptance of Ayn Rand's philosophy, Objectivism. It will provide a venue for people who are interested in the writings and ideas of Ayn Rand to meet, study, and discuss her philosophy. I hope to facilitate friendships among people committed to Reason, Individualism, and Capitalism; to broaden and deepen my own understanding of Objectivism; and to increase the awareness and understanding of Ayn Rand and Objectivism in the community.

Note: The society and our events are open to anyone who shares our interests and wishes to participate. This Meetup group is set to "Private" in order to provide an optional venue for private discussions between members, as well as to more thoroughly protect the privacy of members' information. Because this setting also prevents non-members from seeing the content of event announcements, the public Meetup group will be used to announce events so that people can decide whether they are interested in attending. Public events will be announced in both groups.

Through her novels (including The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged) and her extensive non-fiction writings, Ayn Rand laid out a comprehensive, coherent, and consistent philosophy that she called Objectivism. Objectivism is based on reality, recognizes reason as man's only means of cognition, and advocates egoism, individual rights, and capitalism. In a nutshell, Objectivism is a Philosophy for Living on Earth.

The Ayn Rand Institute provides extensive online resources on their website (AynRand.Org), including reading material, lectures, newsletters, webinars, podcasts, and free online courses for those wishing to learn more about Objectivism.

We will use the writings of Ayn Rand and other Objectivist intellectuals as well as the above-mentioned resources from ARI as the basis for our discussions and activities, in order better to understand the philosophy of Objectivism and how to apply it to help us flourish in our own lives.
