A singles mixer that isn't standing around a bar making small talk. If you're single in New Jersey and tired of the apps, come meet other single people the easy way — by actually doing something together.
We're playing padel: the fast-growing, genuinely social racket sport that's easy to pick up. No experience, no partner, and no equipment needed — you show up solo, we hand you a racket, and an instructor gets you playing in minutes. Then we run rotating games, so you meet different people all afternoon instead of getting stuck with one partner.
Everyone's missing shots for the first twenty minutes — that's the point. It's a far easier icebreaker than "so, what do you do?", and conversation just happens because you're doing something together.
Who this is for: single people looking to meet someone, roughly late 20s through 40s. Beginners especially — no athletic or racket-sport background needed. Come by yourself; most people will be.
What to know: athletic clothes and clean sneakers. Rackets and all equipment provided. Courts are indoor and air-conditioned. Tickets are through Eventbrite (link below) and space is capped by court size.

For those who want to socialize first maybe we can play pool for the first hour or so since it's easier to converse this way. But pool is $6/hr cash only so you can't use your game card for this. Or just get food and drinks or both. Then after that we can hit the arcade games.

Wednesday is half price for all games except VR. Everyone is responsible for all their own food/drinks games. If sharing games like pool then please split the cost evenly between each participant.

I’m generally thinking: 1. grab a drink/food/chat (maybe pool if there's enough interest) 2. try to generally stick together, watch, and rotate in for various games. I’m down for pool and any 2 or more person arcade games like racing or shooters and maybe even prize games too! Please feel free to let us know what your preferences will be.

This is an event for casual bowling at Montvale Lanes, 14 W. Grand Ave. All are welcome for two games, food and drinks, and any post- or pre-game hang out. Show up anytime! Questions or comments? You can message Andy Milone on Meetup, or call/text him at 201-234-9609.

After bowling, we'll definitely be heading to The Ridge Diner, 125 Kinderkamack Road in Park Ridge, at 10:15 p.m. for some food and/or drinks. ***

About the group: People of all ages, backgrounds and abilities are welcome! We're not professionals and we're not in a league. In fact, we're a group of people who probably each won't score more than 100 points and will land more than our fair share of gutter balls. There's no pressure at all!!!! We're not here to analyze your form or technique.

More event details: You pay for your own games, food and drinks. Please bring cash. The alley does not accept card. But there is an ATM on site. The cost per player is $18 for two games and bowling shoes. If you have your own shoes, the cost is $12. Please try to bring exact change since Andy will have a limited amount of cash. If you bring a $20 bill and he doesn't have change, any remainder would just go toward the bowling alley tip.

Food and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are available on site, plus tables and an alley bar to hang at during the event. There is a dart board and a few arcade games, as well.

What do you do when you get there? Find the group inside around the front desk. Look for a growing group of people! Call or text Andy Milone at 201-234-9609 if you can't find us. Once Andy secures the lanes, please pay him before getting your bowling shoes and heading to the lanes.

Please know that it is possible we have to wait 20-40 minutes until lane(s) free up. It's also possible that we may have to relocate or cancel that night if there's a long wait list upon arrival. Please keep that in mind if traveling from far away!

For those who don't have cars or are looking to avoid driving, the Montvale Train Station is only like a five-minute walk from the bowling alley and can be reached via the Pascack Valley Line. If you want to meet earlier than 9 AM (like 8 or 8:30) then please let me know by the day before. If you show up later than 9 AM and we have to rotate people in then those who show up by 9 AM will have court priority. It all depends on how many people we have vs. court space on any given day. Keep monitoring the comments for any changes though keep in mind I typically don’t monitor comments after 9 AM.

RULES: By signing up you agree to follow these rules:

1. No instruction or orders are allowed on any of our group courts. If two or more people are in agreement then they’re welcome to exchange instructions so long as they relinquish their court positions and don’t disrupt active players. If anyone is instructing or ordering you and you’re not comfortable then please tell them or let me know. Everyone should feel free to play however they wish without being directed without agreement, most especially beginners.

2. No formal locked-team matches are allowed on any of our group-reserved courts. If people are in agreement then they’re welcome to find another court not in use by our group to play strict matches. If we need to rotate people in and out due to lack of enough courts then we’ll use a structure I learned for balanced clinic matches. This typically includes quick matches to 5 points after which everyone rotates clockwise one position. This keeps those waiting rotated back in often and also discourages “dream-team” scenarios trying to hold the court via wins.

3. We are foremost beginner-friendly and not aggressively competitive or an instruction-oriented group. A little light and friendly competition or giving a quick tip so long as you’re not holding up the court is OK but please pace yourself against the person you’re hitting to (e.g. hit softer to members that might not be as good or as aggressive as you). Everyone should be made to feel welcome and free regardless of skill level. Beginners most especially should always feel comfortable here.

4. Please make sure you’re signed up using a name that matches your Meetup name. New players should always check in with me so I can mark you down as having checked in. Anyone showing up without a Meetup RSVP will be asked to do so before they can participate in the event. If you’re bringing one guest that’s fine, just make sure to mark them on your RSVP.

5. If I feel you’re consistently not following the rules I have the right to ask you to relinquish your position on the court. Please don’t sign up and attend if you don’t agree to following any one rule here. We are largely democratic but I reserve the right to make any final calls if I deem it necessary for any reason, such as breaking up and remixing long-locked groups if we have more than one court.

EQUIPMENT: Please bring your own racquet and water, as we don’t provide those. I always have some balls for at least one court, but feel free to bring your own in case we need to branch out over more than one court.
