Tao Te Ching Chapter 3 (The Wu-Wei Governance)

If we stop exalting our greatness, there will be no more jealousy and competition among the people.
If we cease to have high regard for rare products, there will be no more thieves.
If the people never see things that excite their desire, their hearts will remain placid and undisturbed.
Therefore the Saint is able to rule: ​By emptying minds and making bellies full.
Weakening ambitions and making bones strong
​Ever seeking to make the people innocent and free from desire.
Indeed one sees to it that those who are falsely wise will not dare to interfere.
Yet through wu-wei all things are properly regulated.
