Shining Sea Bikeway & Explore Woods Hole - Before the Summer Crowds

If you have never done this trail, it is worth the drive even for a day trip. However those who wish to make it an overnight can book rooms on their own at the Falmouth Inn or other places nearby. I will just be doing the day portion.
The trail name is a reference to the patriotic song "America the Beautiful". The author of the song's lyrics, Katherine Lee Bates, was born in Falmouth, and there is a plaque commemorating her poem near mile marker 2. The path runs for 10.7 miles from the Steamship Authority ferry terminal in Woods Hole to North Falmouth.
We will start in Falmouth at the 81 Depot Ave. parking lot, across from the Peter Pan Bus terminal. See Map. We will ride to the north end of the trail and then back, passing the parking lot and continuing on to Woods Hole. I like to save Woods Hole for the last. That way if we eat somewhere there or just want to explore Woods Hole, it's only a 4 mile ride back to the parking lot. Round Trip 21 miles for the entire trail. If you want a shorter ride you can skip Woods Hole and end your ride when we get back to the parking lot for a 12 miles Round Trip.

It goes without saying bring water, snack, sunscreen, and a bike lock :-)

Safety Note: Bike helmets are mandatory on our rides.
IMPORTANT: Be sure your bike is in good working order! Tires should be in good shape and pumped up, gears should shift smoothly, and your brakes should be properly adjusted. If possible, pack a spare tube in case of a flat. A hand pump or CO2 inflator is also desireable, though not absolutely necessary, as many riders will already have them.
