Bike & Bites! NBPT/Amesbury Scenic Road & Trail Ride + opt. Starboard Galley

Down by the river—the Merrimack River roundtrip from Newburyport to Amesbury—trails and curvy roads! Must be comfortable with road biking as our nearly 22.5-mile ride is approximately a 50/50 combination of scenic roads along the Merrimack River, Lake Attitash, Woodsom Farm then through downtown Amesbury connecting back to the rail trails from Amesbury for our return to Newburyport.

We will be biking on trails and roads with some sightseeing along the way. The roads travelled are 25 and 30 mph zones with the exception of .4 mile on Route 110 (40 mph) with wide, well-marked shoulder.

In Amesbury, we will take a 10- minute water/snack break at Alliance Park followed by a brief stop at Kimball & Co. (jam & jelly manufacturer). We will then continue along Pleasant Valley Road—“a long and winding road” to Buttonwood Road (expected elevation gain = 596 ft.) and making our way via Lake Attitash Rd through Woodsom Farm and downtown Amesbury. After a short break we will access the Amesbury Riverwalk Rail Trail and make our way back to Newburyport via Ghost (optional stop at the Dairy Queen), Eastern Marsh, Salisbury, and Clipper City Rail Trails to return to our starting point. Please note: All riders must dismount and walk bikes on the wooden portion of the trail through Waterfront Park.

Upon returning to our starting point, we may leave our cars in the lot and walk over to Starboard Galley.

IMPORTANT
You must wear bright or neon shirt/jacket for increased visibility for road travel. In addition to crossing Route 110, we will travel .4 miles on Route 110 Eastbound from Pond Hill Road to the beginning of the Lake Attitash Watershed. Please ensure that your bike is in good working order. You should bring a spare tube and a hand pump.
