Bike Parker River Refuge and Plum Island

Saturday looks like a beautiful day for this ride by the water. Meet at the Visitor Center Parking Lot at 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport. We'll ride over the PI Bridge and take a left at the Sunset Club for a short jaunt down Old Point Road and back. Then onto the Parker River Refuge. There is no longer a charge for bicycles !!! We’ll bike the 3.5 miles of paved refuge road and stop at Hellcat observation tower. Then back to the Sunset Club intersection and on to a familiar route (to many) down Northern Boulevard stopping at the Docks along the Merrimack River for a break. Bathrooms at the Visitor Center and in the Refuge parking lot. Total trip approximately 17 miles Round Trip. 2 to 3 hours depending on how long we stop for snacks at Hellcat and lunch at the docks. If some folk wish we can continue on to the waterfront in downtown Newburyport when we get back to the Visitor Center. Bring Water, Snack/Lunch
Bike helmets are mandatory when riding with us!
IMPORTANT: Be sure your bike is in good working order! Tires should be in good shape and pumped up, gears should shift smoothly, and your brakes should be properly adjusted. If possible, pack a spare tube in case of a flat. A hand pump or CO2 inflator is also desirable, though not absolutely necessary, as many riders will already have them.

Kayaking, camping, hiking, bicycling, and other similar activities pose inherent risks and dangers. Participation in these activities is voluntary and dependent upon your own personal judgment. As organizers, we make no claims regarding any expertise for this outing. This is not a guided tour.
