Leveraging Google Cloud IoT Core for Large Scale Industrial IoT deployments

Details
The Internet of Things is not just about sensors or devices connected together, but also about the data streams and the intelligent insights that can be derived from such data with AI and ML capabilities integrated with it!
The number of connected IoT devices (current annual growth of 12%) is expected to reach ~125 billion with most of the growth according to IHS Market survey coming from
- Smart Cities: With increasing urbanization and mega-urbanization of our big cities, there is an urgent need of using technology to improve efficiency, sustainability and quality of life for people living and working in our big cities around the world
- Industrial IoT: Companies using ML and big data to generate insights from sensor data
- Connected Health: Gathering metrics about patients health from connected devices that healthcare providers can access outside the hospital
- Smart Homes: Using smart devices to control the environment in our homes
Companies today are using IoT devices to perform a wide variety of tasks. As companies find new use cases for IoT, the industry will continue to grow. Some of the increasingly wide areas of industrial IoT use cases are,
Accelerating Business Agility: Embedding sensors on valuable assets in the field to track them in real-time and perform complex analytics and machine learning on data collected
Machine Learning on the edge: Using ML frameworks like Tensorflow, for instance, IoT devices can be enhanced with ML capabilities that can help in quickly identifying any anomaly or suggesting a time window for predictive maintenance
Localization Intelligence: IoT devices basically allow you to visualize assets and where they are located in real time, the utilization rate among other things!
In this talk, Steve Bramhall and James Harding will be showing us some of the work they've done and lessons learned developing IoT applications and integrating it with Google Cloud IoT core
Steve currently works at Qorvo on various RF products that support the wireless industry including 5G and IoT technologies. He previously worked at St. Jude Medical helping release the first neural stimulator implant using Bluetooth Communication and worked in the RFID Group at Texas Instruments. Steve has a BSEE and is currently pursuing a Masters in Data Science from SMU.
James is a Google Cloud Engineer, he works extensively across the length and breadth of various Google cloud technologies.
The presentation will focus on the following areas
- Sensors, Devices and Cloud Integration
- Deep dive on Google Cloud IoT Platform
- Creating Pipelines for processing IoT data
- Analyzing Data with BigQuery and Cloud Dataprep
- Cloud ML integration and Machine Learning on the edge
