Grouse Mountain: BCMC & Thunderbird Ridge - Hard - MICROSPIKES REQUIRED
Details
PLEASE READ BEFORE CLICKING "ATTEND"
Come explore the Grouse Mountain trails on a sunny Sunday!
We will begin by climbing BCMC, a steep, switchbacking ascent trail that parallels the more famous (and more crowded) Grouse Grind. It's a great workout, but also offers a chance to experience the forests of the North Shore. The climb will take about 2 hours.
We will regroup at the Chalet, where there will be an opportunity to get coffee, use the washroom, and fill your water bottle. Then we will set out to complete the Dam Mountain and Thunderbird Ridge Loop, which on clear days offers spectacular views of the city and Howe Sound. (These are the same trails we snowshoed in December).
We will finish at the Chalet, where hikers can either take the gondola down ($20 if purchased online in advance) or hike down BCMC.
There will be snow. All hikers will need microspikes.
If you want to skip the climb on BCMC, you can ride the gondola ($$$). Just let the host know to expect you at the Chalet.
Difficulty, Distance, and Elevation: Hard. BCMC = 3 km, 790 m gain. Thunderbird Ridge = 7 km, ~300 m gain.
