Be adventurous, try something new at an old-time community dance! I "discovered" Contra ~12 years ago and haven't stopped yet. This dance dates back to the 1600's with English and French origins and is the older, simpler parent of American square dance. It is done in long lines of groups of four to very lively old-time or Appalachian music with a live band. A caller walks everybody through the steps before the music starts as well as during the dance. This is historically a social dance and by the end of the evening you may well dance with everybody in the room. Very casual dress is the norm, and you will get warm as this is a very aerobic dance. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY, easy to learn and a lesson begins at 7:00. Come single, bring a partner, or as many friends as you like. A fun evening is almost guaranteed.

Dance at 8:00, $10 at the door, come for the lesson at 7:00 if you are new at this.

From the parking lot near Stillman, walk north between two buildings, the dance is in the building on the left, enter via the side entrance, do not go all the way around to the front of the building.

The picture is one of the recent dances.
