Shutter Showdown 📸: A Photography Challenge

We warmly welcome you to Shutter Showdown 📸, North East Culture and Conversation’s first photography event.

✨This is a dynamic photography competition where participants will face various themed challenges throughout the day. ✨

They’ll need to capture the essence of each theme using their photography skills, creativity, and a keen eye for detail. 🤩

With a unique voting system and multiple rounds, the event will keep everyone engaged while pushing their limits to create visually compelling shots. 🗳️

Event Structure: 📜

1. Welcome and Briefing (30 mins): 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♀️

Participants will be briefed on the event rules, how it works, and can ask any questions.

Tools and Equipment: You will be required to bring your equipment. 📱

Ensure you are also able to upload your pictures to the internet. 🤳

2. Example Round: “Romanticise the Quayside” 🌅

Objective: Find and capture the beauty of the Newcastle’s Quayside – this could include sunset reflections, boat lights, or capturing the hustle and bustle in an artistic manner.

Creative Tip: Emphasise the use of natural light and creative angles, such as shooting through elements (like windows or railings) to frame the scene.

3. Example Round: “Urban Jungle” 🌵

Objective: Find nature in the heart of the city. Whether it’s plants in a cafe, vines climbing a building, or flowers growing through cracks in the pavement, the goal is to contrast the man-made with the natural world.

Creative Tip: Play with depth of field to highlight certain elements and blur others.

4. Post-Theme Process: ✅

Upload and Vote: 📥

After each round, attendees will upload their best image to IMGUR with a unique link. The images will then be added to a Strawpoll where each participant will vote for their top three favourites (except their own).

After each round of voting, tally up the points (3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd).

After the final theme, total all points and announce the winner.

Prize: Absolutely nothing (other than bragging rights of course!) 🥳🎉

This event’s all about spending the day out together, visiting some great spots around Newcastle. We’ll be moving from place to place as a group, so it’s a great chance to catch up with familiar faces and meet some new ones too.
