This time, we’ll be reading Bunny by Mona Awad: a dark, satirical comedy following protagonist Samantha, a creative writing student at a prestigious university, who befriends a group of rich girls called the Bunnies and enters their peculiar and unsettling world 🐰🖤 …
The novel appeared on many Best of 2019 hit lists and has been described by Waterstones as:
"a subversive, razor-sharp and darkly hilarious exploration of class, ambition and the shady side of female friendships”.
Our favourite feminist literary grand dame Margaret Atwood has characterised the novel as ”very funny, kind of horrifying and quite far outside the lines" …
Between Bunny’s incisive psychological exploration of female friendship; its boldly commingling genres of fairy tale, horror and satire; and Awad’s cultural referencing from both mythology and movies, we should find rich material for some robust discussion and analysis!
The Vampire Rabbit is an elegant cocktail bar that fits our leporine-themed book quite neatly! 📕🍷And it is just down the road from Central Station 🚂✨, so pretty easy access with transport links and parking.
This is an open session, so feel free to drop by at any time during the evening - we’re pretty easygoing ☺️.
Hope you can join us! 🤩
