Jesmond Dene Circular Walk followed by Sip & Paint in the Park

Join us for a circular walk 3.5 km/2.1 mile (1.5hr) followed by a picnic in the park and a sip & paint session inspired by our surroundings (optional). A prize will be available for the best art work.
Fingers crossed for good weather but depending on that we can choose whether to set down for a picnic or find a cafe/pub to go to after the walk instead.
Jesmond Dene is a beautiful public park offering some spectacular highlights and is known for its picturesque setting with lush greenery, wooded areas, and the meandering Ouseburn river. The park provides a tranquil and scenic environment for leisurely walks and enjoying nature.
One of the main attractions in Jesmond Dene is the series of small waterfalls along the Ouseburn. The most notable waterfall is known as the ‘Giant's Steps’. Also, look out for a variety of wildlife including kingfishers and red squirrels.

Terrain - Some of the footpaths in Jesmond Dene can be muddy, especially after wet weather. There are also some steep sections along this walk. There are steps in some of the steeper sections of the Dene.
Journey (Public Transport) - Jesmond Dene is only a 15 minute walk from either West Jesmond or South Gosforth Metro stations. It is also walkable from Newcastle City Centre. For bus options- From Haymarket St Marys Place: Buses 51 (Whitley Bay), 52 (Cramlington), 306 (Tynemouth) and 308 (Blyth). Get off at Cradlewell / Jesmond Road, next to a stone wall, and just before the road tunnel. Walk downhill and bear off left at the turn, and you’ll come to Armstrong Bridge. From the Monument, John Dobson Street or the West end of Newcastle: Bus number 38. Get off either at Jesmond Road (as above, for the South end of the Dene and Armstrong Bridge), or stay on until Freeman Hospital (for Paddy Freeman’s).
Journey (Driving & Parking) - If driving, there are options for car parks around the area. Jesmond Dene is situated close to the A1058 Coast Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. From the south, centre, or north of Newcastle, leave the A167(M) Central Motorway East, exiting at the sign to ‘North Shields, Tynemouth’, which takes you onto the A1058. Once on the A1058, exit to the left, signposted ‘Jesmond’.a short row of shops and take the second right down the bank. You can park either on that bank or go all the way to the bottom, where you turn left to enter the car park inside Jesmond Dene (limited availability). This is the most accessible way to reach the Visitor Centre, café and Pets’ Corner.

- Whatever food/drink you'd like
- Art supplies (paint, pens, pencils, paper, canvas). We will have some extras if required.
