Drinks, Data & Diagrams: A Fun Hands-On Power BI Modelling Night 🍹📊
A social, friendly, hands-on session where we’ll learn how to design a clean data model in Power BI—and how to publish and share it online.
Free community event: come have a drink and data-model with us (soft drinks welcome!). No Power BI experience required.
This is a new way to learn while socialising. We’ll also invite members from our sister event, the North East Business Meetup, so expect great conversation and new connections.
What we’ll do
a) Sketch a real data model on paper using sticky notes (tables) and lines (relationships)
b) Learn core ideas: facts vs. dimensions, one-to-many, cardinality, star schema
c) Rebuild the same model in Power BI Desktop
d) Publish to the Power BI Service and discuss sharing options & best practices
Who it’s for
Beginners and non-technical professionals who want to understand data modelling (even simple examples like “shopping data”).
What to bring
Nothing—I’ll bring pens, paper, and sticky notes.
Outcomes
Leave with:
a) A clear mental model of how relationships work
b) A simple Power BI model you can re-use and extend
