Intentional Hike: Cultivating (Inner & Outer) Strength

Details

Independence Trail Intentional Hike
How many of us, as mission-driven healers, empaths, and creatives, seek to build more meaningful and authentic community? Often the desire is for deeper connection, where we can truly be seen and understood by those of like mind and heart.

Focus: We will focus on connecting with our true power and strength: the strength from our inner nature, from outer nature, and from our connection with each other.

Trail: 3 miles round trip, minimal elevation
In this upcoming Intentional Hike, we'll explore the Independence Trail, a historic site overlooking the Yuba river. The trail follows the gentle gradient of an old mining ditch and is wheelchair accessible for one mile (the first identified wheelchair accessible wilderness trail in the country). It offers occasional views of the South Yuba River canyon and passes seasonal side streams and bogs, and we will pass along several wooden bridges that have replaced the historic flumes.

We will stop about 1-1/2 miles along the trail to pause at some picnic tables, where we will connect with the strength of the heart through a grounding and healing meditation. We will return for a total of 3 miles round trip, with minimal elevation gain.

When you return from the hike, we will be not too far from historic Nevada City. Feel free to stop and visit the town, connect with others in the group to share a meal, etc.

Location: We’ll hike the Independence Trail East. There is a small parking area and so we strongly recommend meeting to carpool at 9:00am from the Nevada County Administrative parking lot, see more details below.

In addition, please note that cell phone service is typically spotty near the trail, and so just be aware i.e. download directions beforehand, etc.

Carpool: To carpool, meet at 9:00am on the west (left) side of the Nevada County main administrative building at 950 Maidu Ave - this is between the admin building and the county jail. There are usually plenty of available spaces here. Decide who will drive to the trailhead, and then meet at the trailhead by 9:30am.

Reminders: Bring plenty of drinking water, snacks, a hat (if sunny), and good trail hiking shoes. You may want to bring bug spray, as well.

Trailhead: From the north end of Nevada City where Highway 49 turns west toward Downieville, go 6.25 miles on Highway 49 north. A highway sign tells northbound travelers the Independence Trailhead is coming up. Parking will be on the right side of the highway. You will see this Independence Trail East overflow parking area. Park here, and then walk up the wooden steps that lead up the bank. There is a portable restroom structure here, and this is where we will start the hike.

If you have signed up and are not able to attend, please update your RSVP at least 2 days prior to the event. This will allow others who want to attend to do so, and ensure we have the correct count for who will be there. Thank you!

If needed, we will reschedule or change locations, due to weather.
