About us

We're building a group of Northern California outdoor lovers who just really like getting outside. Hiking, camping, backpacking, chasing waterfalls, and scrambling up peaks is what we are about.

This is a member-driven group, meaning everyone is encouraged to show up, suggest destinations, and even lead trips. Have somewhere in mind but don't want to go alone? New to the area or just getting into backpacking? No worries! Most of us started that way, and we're happy to help you find your footing…truly.

While we're based in Northern California, we don't plan on staying put. Sure, there's plenty to explore in our own backyard in the Sierra Nevada, but there is also plenty to check out in the Trinity Alps, the Redwoods, and even on down into Central and Southern California. Occasionally, you will find us venturing further out into neighboring states like Nevada and Oregon. Every now and then, we may even push further than that (WA, AZ, UT, CO, NM, WY, MT).

People of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels are welcome here. It's easy to find reasons to stay divided these days, but we'd rather just get outside together. If you join us, all we ask is that you treat people the way you'd want to be treated.

Trips will range from beginner-friendly outings to seriously challenging multi-day routes, so keep an eye on the calendar and be honest with yourself about what you're ready for.

Come help us get this thing off the ground! Bring your boots and a decent attitude, and you'll be just fine.

As far as how often we get out, the goal is to organize one or two backpacking trips a month, plus one or two local day hikes to keep the legs moving between bigger adventures. We'll also get together in person from time to time to talk through upcoming trips, swap gear advice, and cover the basics for anyone who wants to feel more prepared out on the trail. Think of those meetups as part planning session, part gear swap, part casual hangout.

A quick note on costs. Some trips will have a small fee attached, specifically ones that require permits, involve out-of-state travel, or take a significant amount of planning to pull off. There's no profit here, just enough to cover site hosting and any expenses that go into putting a trip together. The nominal fee also serves another purpose: it keeps people accountable. Signing up and not showing up isn't just inconvenient, it also takes a spot from someone else who wanted to go. A little skin in the game goes a long way toward making sure everyone who commits actually shows up.
