Bangor Humanists presents a timely and vital talk with Professor John Barry of Queen's University Belfast. Professor Barry will dedicate his discussion to the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire of geopolitical conflicts, with a specific focus on the ongoing humanitarian emergency in West Asia (Middle East).

This event will go beyond the headlines to examine the profound human toll of contemporary conflicts and the dangers of militarism and the rush by governments across the world, including the UK and Ireland, to rearmament and boosting military spending. Professor Barry will explore the complex relationships between global security, political decisions, and the devastating realities faced by ordinary people – the forced displacement, the loss of life, and the systematic denial of human rights. He will challenge the audience to consider the responsibilities of states and international bodies in protecting vulnerable populations and address the widespread sense of injustice and powerlessness.

This is a powerful opportunity for a thoughtful, engaged audience to hear a critical perspective that puts human suffering at the heart of the global security debate. Prepare for an evening of deep reflection on the quest for peace and justice, and what it means to be human and humane in a time of global crisis.
