About us
PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION! Northern Paddle and Trail (NPT) began in Rhinelander, WI about 25 years ago by a small group of outdoor enthusiasts. It was created to provide a variety of silent sports outings. Members enjoy the beauty of our lakes, rivers and forests where we get fresh air and exercise while visiting with like-minded souls. Our get-togethers include hiking, kayaking, canoeing, biking, XC skiing, snowshoeing, ice shuffleboard, camping, and annual potlucks, plus occasional game nights at a local pub.
For all Meetup members that have not officially joined NPT, we invite you to go to our home website, click on "membership" and consider joining NPT for the low fee of $10/yr. You will then be included in our Group Email List to get notices of our events. If you do not want to join NPT at this time, remember you can go to the website's calendar anytime and see what we are up to and join anytime. Plus the home website has many pictures from past adventures.
Hope to see you on the trails or on the water!

Game Night at Rhinelander Brewing Company
Rhinelander Brewing Company, 43 S Brown St, Rhinelander, WI, USHi Everyone - Northern Paddle & Trail will be hosting our third ever Game Night, Tuesday, March 17, at Rhinelander Brewing Company from 5:30-7:30 p.m. So what is a Game Night? It's an opportunity to get together with other NPT members and quests to socialize over a beer/root beer and play board and card games. Also, it's a good excuse to get out of the house during these winter months . The Rhinelander Brewing Co.'s atmosphere of picnic tables, free popcorn and a large collection of beer choices makes this an inviting place to have our Game Night event. And by the way, they make their own root beer which is very good. They do not serve food, but I was informed that they do have frozen pizza. You can bring your own food to the event if you like, or pick something up and bring it with you. If you have a favorite board game or a card game bring it with you. Uno, Yahtzee and Golf are always favorites. Rhinelander Brewing Co. is located at 43S Brown Street in downtown Rhinelander. Same street as the Mel's Sporting Goods store. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Hope to see you at this low level competitive event. - J
A donation of $5.00 per event is requested for non-NPT members which can be paid at the event. Membership for NPT is $10.00/year. To become a NPT member go to northernpaddleandtrail.org and click in the upper righthand corner and find membership.11 attendees
Annual Midwest Crane Count
Rhinelander, 1 S. Oneida Ave., WI, USAnnual Midwest Crane Count, Saturday, April 18th, 5:30-7:30 am, location TBD in the Rhinelander Area
This is a unique opportunity for all NPT members to get involved in a statewide citizen science activity in the Rhinelander area. The first organized count took place in 1981 by the International Crane Foundation. Each year in mid-April, volunteers throughout the Upper Midwest travel to their local wetlands and favorite birding locations to participate in the crane count. This annual survey of Sandhill and Whooping Cranes spans over 150 counties in seven states, including Wisconsin and portions of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota.
NPT member, Geralyn Karl, who has participated in the count a number of times, would be happy to lead a group of three in her vehicle to participate in the count. If we have more members interested we will form another group. Geralyn is willing to meet prior to the event, maybe over coffee, if others feel it would be helpful in their participation. The information on crane calls, location and data collection is covered in a video, with data sheets in a printable version, from the following website.

Geralyn has spoken with our county organizers, Bob and Jan Dall, and they would be delighted to have NPT members experience this great opportunity to participate in this citizen science event. Afterwards, all the volunteers are invited to meet for breakfast here in Rhinelander. not required, and talk about our morning experiences. She says, " The whole morning is very uplifting and enlightening". Hope you can join us! - J
If you're interested, you need to let Geralyn know by Wednesday, April 1st so she can create a list of NPT volunteers.
