Details

With 3 to 4 inches of snow on the area trails, our first winter event looks like it is going to be a hike and not a snowshoe. But, you never know about the weather, although the forecast up through Dec 12th doesn't predict much snow.
Hike the Raven Trail, Friday, December 12th at 9:00 -11: 30 a.m. We will meet at the Raven trailhead parking lot at 8420 Woodruff Road. Most of you have been on the Raven Trail before, but some of the new members may not be familiar with the trail. The Raven Trail system may be the most popular trail in the Northern Highlands State Forest. Depending on the route we will be walking through an old growth hemlock forest, a managed hardwood forest of maple, oak and aspen and along several lakes. The trail that we will follow will be determined the day of the hike. Depending on the group, we will also determine the length we wish to hike. You may have the option of choosing a shorter hike (two miles), if it's possible, while others continue on . This is not a fast paced event and we stop frequently to make nature observations and feed the birds. You may want to bring some bird seed along if you have some, because the birds will be waiting to be fed at various locations along the trail. Dress for the weather of the day, bring water, snacks and a smile. After the hike, a social event could take place at a local establishment, if interested. Keep in mind that there is a $5.00 donation for non-NPT members. Hope to see you therel - J
