Paddle N. Branch Pelican River
Details
Paddle the North Branch of the Pelican River, Wednesday, June 10th, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, meet at the put-in at the dam.
Most of us are familiar with the Pelican River that flows through Rhinelander and many of us have paddled it. Only a few of us have experienced the north branch. It creates the Moens Chain of Lakes east of Rhinelander and flows into the Pelican River. Where we will start (put-in) is just below the dam on Fifth Lake. There is a mixture of wetlands that we will paddle through with possible animal sightings of swans, eagles, mallards, turtles, muskrats, and your occasional river otter. There is a mixture of flatwater and some slightly faster water. Having a current makes going downhill easier and more fun. No rapids, but some moving water that isn't a problem to navigate. All experience levels of paddlers are welcome. Bring snacks, water and appropriate clothing and footwear. A wearable PFD is required. If you do not have a boat let the host know and possibly we can get you set up so you won't miss this fun event. For those interested, more socializing could happen at Rocky's Roadhouse on Hwy P after the paddle. Directions from Rhinelander (19 min, 11 miles) from Walgreens intersection of Hwy 17 & Hwy P. Travel east on Hwy P to the intersection of Hwy 8. Turn left on Hwy 8 going east 1 1/2 miles, turn left onto Hay Meadow Rd. Turn left onto N. Pelican Lake Rd, turn right onto E Cottage Rd and a slight right onto Dam Rd. Hope to see you on the water - J
