Hike to Trout Lake in Glacier National Park

Details

Hey everyone - let's hike to Trout Lake, which starts on the far side of Lake McDonald directly across from the lodge. This will involve a pretty big climb through a burned out forest but will offer great opportunities for wildlife and wildflower viewing. Also - from Hike734.com:

"As you approach the ridgeline, you will enter a lush, unburned forest, which you will follow all the way down to the lake.....the view towards the head of the lake is nothing short of beautiful, with the impressive rocky south face of Heavens Peak dominating your views."

The wildlife I mentioned might include grizzlies and black bears. Make sure you're staying close to two or three other hikers.

Length: 8.3 miles
Elevation Gain: 3,100 feet
Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous
Bring your bearspray.

Also bring extra layers, plenty of food/snacks, water/electrolytes, rain gear, and trekking poles if you like using them. Anything else you think you might need.

We'll meet at the usual spot at the park and ride lot on Highway 206 and Highway 2, east of Columbia Falls and arrange a carpool. See you there!
