When to Stop Playing by the Rules

Lately we have all had to deal with lies and the lying liars who tell them. How do I deal with people who simply ignore the rules; disregarding Society’s norms, basic human decency, existing law, and judicial rulings? When political actors ignore or corrupt the system to their advantage? When does my continuing to follow these “rules” become ineffective - since the old rules no longer are working? What is the tipping point for me to acknowledge that the system I am used to has changed and new approaches are needed? What are ethical responses in such an environment? Does my commitment to “bringing out the best in others” become feckless?
I will outline these concerns and then everyone can explore them further in small discussion groups.
