    Mandatory free training session for all new North Forge Fabrication Lab members. This orientation and safety session is specifically for new Fabrication Lab members who have already submitted a membership application for the North Forge Fabrication Lab. This orientation session will help new members become better acquainted with shop and equipment rules and policies, including important safety information, we are offering a member orientation on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm. This walk through is designed to introduce to North Forge Fabrication Lab policies and procedures, and identify hazards that members may encounter in the course of their work.

  • 3D Printer Training: Form 2

    We will be learning the basics of using the FormLabs: Form 2 resin based SLA printers including, basic printer maintenance and hardware operation, and software operation. Duration should be approximately 90 minutes. Concepts: What is SLA?   • Tormach Training - CNC Milling Machine

    Tormach Training Course Length - 5 hours We'll pause for a lunch break at noon. Course Fee - $125 Max 4 students Learn how to use the Tormach CNC Milling Machine. We will go through some CAM basics through Fusion 360. We'll convert a CAD drawing into a CAM file. We'll create basic tool paths to generate a G-code for the Tormach. We'll spend roughly 3 hours in class and 2 hours at the machine. You'll learn how to square a vice properly, set your offsets, learn about the fundamentals of machining such as feed and speeds, machining chips, properly measuring tools and so much more. Requirements: - Knowledge of CAD & CAM - Experience on a CNC 3 axis machine such as the Shopbot. Class will take place in the main meeting room at 125 Adelaide St.

  • MASTERING THE BASICS: GMAW MIG-welding

    This course is open to anyone who wishes to learn the basic safety, and operating procedures for the Gas-Metal Arc-Welding "MIG" welder in a friendly, safe, and all inclusive environment. New Canadians, LGBTT, and all others are welcome to sign up, and participate. There is a brief safety orientation, a demo period, and the remaining time is spent with as much hands-on as possible to help in the training process. Requirements: Safety equipment is provided on-site, however it is a good idea to come wearing long pants, ideally jeans that are free of holes, and you don't mind if they get singed, or burned. Safety shoes are required, and if you don't have your own, steel slip-on caps are available for use! Further, if you're an active member with the Fabrication Lab, and are already familiar with welding equipment, this course is not necessary, and we can find the time to assess your competency, and allow you access to the equipment right away! The course is $57.00, which includes applicable taxes.

  • Industrial Sewing Machine Training: Basics

    Learn how to use the single needle straight stitch Industrial Sewing Machine. Concepts to be covered will include parts of the machine, safety, how to set up the machine, and basic trouble shooting. We will also discuss other types of sewing machines and differences between them. Training is expected to be one hour and will include mostly demonstration and Q&A. Trainer will be available for some additional time after the training session to discuss specific projects if you have extra questions, or for additional assistance if needed.   • Epilog Laser Training

    Introduction to Corel Draw / Epilog Laser Systems training will take place every 2nd Sunday. Members of North Forge Fabrication Lab pay $50 plus GST. Non-Members of North Forge Fabrication Lab pay $50 plus GST. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver prior to the training. Payment is required prior to the start of the training. Payment may usually be made through the PayPal system, or by contacting the trainer to make other arrangements. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND TRAINING AND DO NOT CONTACT THE TRAINER 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE, YOU WILL BE LIABLE FOR THE COST OF THE TRAINING. Exceptions will be made under reasonable circumstances, but you will still be expected to contact the trainer via meetup prior to the start of the training. Attendees may bring a two-tone logo, line art, or idea for text (including font) in JPEG, BMP, CDR, AI, SVG, EPS, or DXF format on a USB stick. We will engrave the artwork during the hands-on portion of the class. What will be covered: Corel Draw -Basic Color/line weight mapping for raster/vector -Verifying Vector files produced in other programs • Complete training on (Not including rotary accessories) Epilog Laser Systems Helix / Fusion / Fibermark Anticipate 2 hours. Approximately an hour and fifteen minutes for training, and 45 minutes for hands-on time with an instructor present to answer questions and offer guidance. North Forge Fabrication Lab requires safety boots and glasses to access. Toe caps and glasses can be provided if you can’t bring your own.
