What we’re about

Welcome to the Northshore Chess Club! Join us every Saturday from 1-4PM at “Saturday Chess at Starbucks” at the Lake Forest Starbucks (672 N Western Ave, Lake Forest). Check https://www.meetup.com/northshorechess/ for all the information, post comments, ask questions, RSVP for events.

Please RSVP, come play, and learn a thing or two to improve your chess! We will have sets, but if you want to show yours off, OK! If you are a beginner make sure you review all the rules of chess (like En Passant) before you come. There’s a PDF on https://www.chesshouse.com/pages/chess-learning-resources (scroll down). We normally play without time clocks, because the “long game” improves your calculation skills, but it’s not a rule! The only rule we have is “Touch Move”: you touch a piece, you have to move it.

Note: we have 12 spots per event, and we’ve been getting 10-12 players every Saturday, so if you can’t come please cancel your RSVP to allow someone else to come! I’ll be taking attendance! 😉 All ages, genders, and levels welcome!

Some educational chess podcasts I like are: The Perpetual Chess Podcast, Next Level Chess, New In Chess, and Chess Journeys. A good method for studying  tactics is the “Custom Puzzle” category on [Chess.com,](http://chess.com,/)(Puzzles/Custom Puzzles) which allows you to tailor the strength of the puzzles to your level, (puzzles train pattern recognition).

Also three apps: Forward Chess, a chess specific e-book reader; ScorePad, which allows you to save your live games (analyzing your live games is the best way to improve); and the Lichess app and website, https://lichess.org, (paste in your game into a Lichess Study for analysis). Also check out the free “Short & Sweet” classes on [Chessable.com](http://chessable.com/).

PS-Dues are $5/YEAR (after a 1 month trial), to defray my Meetup subscription, paid through Meetup.com, or better yet you can pay me cash!
