Middlesex Neighborhood History and Architecture (Explore Buffalo)

In the early part of the 20th century, half of the Pan-American grounds was purchased and divided into building lots for upper-middle-class and upper-class families. But before the Holland Land Company acquired the land a hundred years earlier, Native Americans lived here. On this walking tour, we will pass a marker commemorating Philip Conjockety, also known as Scajaquada, after whom both the creek and the expressway were named.

We will also see an extensive mural depicting the five parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in the late 1800s before taking a close look at a selection of homes representing the Arts and Crafts, Colonial Revival, and Tudor Revival styles on Middlesex Road, Lincoln Parkway and Nottingham Terrace.

This tour meets at the parking lot of the Buffalo History Museum at 1 Museum Court, Buffalo, NY 14216 (by the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Nottingham Terrace). Parking is available in the History Museum's parking lot.
